The suspect, identified as Dayton Thomas of Hemet, approached the victim outside the store in the 1500 block of South San Jacinto Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, asked if she had any change and then snatched her gold necklace when she told him no, said Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Thomas ran off, but was later found in an adjacent housing tract with the necklace in his possession, Nardone said.

He was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of robbery and was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail, according sheriff’s online jail records.
