A Moreno Valley felon is behind bars for allegedly forcing his way into a motel room and stealing cash and a laptop from a motel guest, Riverside County Sheriff’s officials reported.
The victim told investigators a man knocked on his door at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Motel 7 located in the 23500 block of Alessandro Boulevard in Moreno Valley.
After refusing to allow the suspect to use his phone, the man barged into the room and demanded cash, Sgt. Walter Mendez said in a sheriff’s report.
“The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash and the victim’s laptop prior to fleeing on foot,” Sgt. Mendez added.
Officers assigned to the Robbery Suppression Team arrived on scene and assumed the investigation.
Their investigative efforts led them to the 13500 block of Plato Drive in Moreno Valley where they set up surveillance. Within a short time, a man resembling the description of the suspect was seen leaving the area in a car.
Raymond Charles Atkins, 30, was apprehended and later identified as the suspected robber.
Investigators were able to locate the stolen laptop and return it to the victim, according to a sheriff’s press release.
Atkins has two felony warrants for possession of stolen property and drug-related charges.
He was subsequently booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of robbery, burglary, possession of stolen property and a probation violation.
