Six people were injured today when a helicopter crashed in Altadena, a Federal Aviation Administration official said today.
The two-helicopter crash happened about 4 p.m., FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer said in an email.
The crash was at the Pasadena Police Department heliport in the 2100 block of Yucca Lane, where one police helicopter hit another police helicopter, according to Lt. Phlunte Riddle of the Pasadena Police Department.
“Their rotator blades were believed to have touched during a maneuver at the police heliport,” Riddle said in a statement. “The air crews from both helicopters sustained minor injuries.”
Riddle said five police officers and one civilian observer were hurt.
Three people were taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital and three others were taken to Verdugo Hills Hospital, said Dan Rosetti of the Pasadena Fire Department.
Both the OH-58 aircraft sustained extensive damage, Riddle said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
