Police also impounded 15 vehicles during the operation in the 4200 block of Mission Bay Drive that started shortly before 11 p.m. Friday and wrapped up about 3 a.m. today, Officer Mark McCullough said.

“One motorist failed to stop for officers in the checkpoint,” McCullough said. “The vehicle was pursued and the driver was ultimately arrested for DUI, felony evading a peace officer, and driving on a suspended license. He also had a prior DUI conviction.”

Police screened 645 drivers of the 1,295 who passed through the checkpoint, he said.

Twenty-nine motorists were given sobriety tests and 14 were arrested, he said.
