A driver who fled San Diego police manning a drunken driving checkpoint in Mission Bay overnight was among 14 people arrested on suspicion of DUI, police said today.
Police also impounded 15 vehicles during the operation in the 4200 block of Mission Bay Drive that started shortly before 11 p.m. Friday and wrapped up about 3 a.m. today, Officer Mark McCullough said.
“One motorist failed to stop for officers in the checkpoint,” McCullough said. “The vehicle was pursued and the driver was ultimately arrested for DUI, felony evading a peace officer, and driving on a suspended license. He also had a prior DUI conviction.”
Police screened 645 drivers of the 1,295 who passed through the checkpoint, he said.
Twenty-nine motorists were given sobriety tests and 14 were arrested, he said.
