Palm Springs man hit and killed by train

A man who was struck and killed by a train as he walked on railroad tracks in Mecca was identified today as a 52-year-old Palm Springs resident.

Richard Poe was walking along the tracks near Highway 111 and Avenue 66 when he was struck at 3:40 p.m. Saturday Nov. 17, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Poe was pronounced dead at the scene.
