The Padres announced today they will keep Bud Black as manager through 2015.
General Manager Josh Byrnes said the team exercised options in Black’s contract following a 2012 season in which the Padres finished with a 76-86 record.
However, they ended the campaign on a 49-37 run following a horrific start caused, in part, by a spate of injuries to starting pitchers.
“Buddy has a keen insight into team dynamics and creates a great environment for the players and coaching staff,” said Byrnes. “He is a gifted leader with a terrific mind for the game and a genuine interest and curiosity related to all areas of our organization.”
Black, a San Diego State University alumnus, has a record of 464-509 over six years at the Padres’ helm.
