A 32-year-old man was in custody this morning on suspicion of murder in the death of a woman assaulted inside her home in Thermal, authorities said.

Deputies found the victim’s body when they responded to a trouble call in the 85000 block of Middleton Street at 11:31 a.m. Wednesday, said Riverside sheriff’s Sgt. Jim Erickson.
“It appeared the female was the victim of a violent physical assault,” Erickson said. Her name was not immediately released. Raul Sanchez Jr. of Thermal, a 32-year-old “acquaintance of the victim’s,” was found near the crime scene, arrested and booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on suspicion of murder.
He is being held in lieu of $1 million and is due to make his initial court appearance at the Larson Justice Center in Indio on Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s website.
