Perris: Anguished teen douses herself in gasoline

A distraught 17-year-old girl doused herself in gasoline today at the parking lot of a Catholic church in Perris, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

The girl also drank some fuel in an apparent suicide attempt at St. James Catholic Church, 260 W. Third St., Riverside County sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Morales said.

Sheriff’s deputies received the call at 10:47 a.m. and rushed to the church, where they found the distraught girl but no flames.

Deputies detained the teen, according to dispatchers, but could not disclose her medical condition, or if she had actually attempted to immolate herself.
