First 5 Riverside is holding a special Rethink Their Drink exhibit on Tuesday Nov. 27 at the Galleria at Tyler in Riverside to help families be sugar savvy, especially as temptations peak this holiday season.
During Toddler Tuesday, families can drop by between 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. for story times with an otter that loves water, demonstrations on how to be sugar savvy, kid activities and free parent action tools.
The exhibit will be located inside the mall across from Santa and the entrance to the Nordstrom wing of the Galleria at Tyler.
“We want our youngest children to get the nutrition they need to grow up healthy and be better able to learn,” says Harry Freedman, executive director of First 5 Riverside.
Nationally, obesity rates have tripled in the last two decades among children.
In Riverside County, more than one-third of children are overweight or obese. Families can help reverse health trends by thinking about the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and making healthier choices for themselves and their children.
“The information on how much sugar is in a juice box or a soda is alarming, which is one reason Galleria at Tyler is supporting the local efforts of the Rethink Your Drink campaign. In addition, we want to be a helpful resource to our shoppers,” said Christina Riojas, marketing manager for Galleria at Tyler.
