High surf is expected later this week at San Diego County beaches and could generate dangerous rip currents, the National Weather Service reported today.

Forecasters expected the swell to start to build Wednesday night, peak Friday, then gradually lower through Sunday.
“High surf and very strong rip currents will result in dangerous swimming conditions at the beaches,especially for inexperienced swimmers,” according to an NWS advisory.
Surf of up to 7 feet and sets of up to 8 feet are expected Thursday morning through Saturday. Surf of up to 9 feet with sets of around 10 feet could be possible on Friday, the NWS said.
West facing shores are likely to get the highest waves, the result of a storm in the Northeast Pacific Ocean, according to NWS forecasters.
Moderate to significant beach erosion could occur.
