Illinois man found dead at Joshua Tree National Park

An Illinois man was found dead in Joshua Tree National Park over the weekend, a park spokesman said today.

The 34-year-old Niles, Ill., resident was found by park rangers in his vehicle on Saturday afternoon at the Ocotillo Patch, a scenic pullout along Park Route 11 in the Pinto Basin area of the park. His identity was not released.

Someone had reported the man missing, park spokesman Joe Zarki said.

Rangers couldn’t resuscitate the man. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office was investigating his death, Zarki said.
