Hikers stumbled upon human bones while hiking on Monday Nov. 26 in the area of 1000 Palms Canyon Road north of Dillon Road, officials reported.

Deputies arrived on scene at 2 p.m. and called in investigators from the Central Homicide Unit to assume the investigation.
The cause of death in unknown at this time and an autopsy is pending, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s report.
