The Chargers announced today that they need to sell 12,000 tickets for Sunday’s home game against the Cincinnati Bengals to avoid a local television blackout.

If nearly all of them aren’t sold by early Thursday afternoon, the telecast would be blacked out in Southern California for the second week in a row, per National Football League policy.

Pricier club level seats are exempted from the NFL’s television rules.

It would be the third time this season local fans would not be able to see a Chargers home game.

Interest has waned during a 4-7 season and fan frustration over an off-season decision by team president Dean Spanos to retain head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith.

Last week’s 16-13 overtime loss to Baltimore and an early season 27-3 setback to Atlanta were also unavailable on local TV.

Ticket purchases by area companies helped the Chargers avoid a fourth blackout against Kansas City.

I tried for the Chargers in 1979…….Was a season ticket holder for years……Worked with the team in charities……
The commitment to be the best has LONG AGO left this team and it started with Junior and Rodney being fired…..The heart and soul of this team is ripped out year after year……BLACK OUT? WHO CARES!!!!!! We have how many military mean and women in this county and how many tickets do the cheap Spanos give them? How many Dean? So we get blacked out…….we dont care anymore Dean. You have lost the faithful. Norv has NEVER been a Head coach…….never! AJ your ego is your pride is your downfall…..Im not a faithful Charger fan?Im no longer a fool…..Having a football players passion and seeing Jeromy Clary look like a revolving door YEAR AFTER YEAR……Can not run on the right side at all! Look at our corners! Can not cover! Get it?Burn City! Toast! D Line penetration??????How often? Ryan Mathews CAN NOT FLOW! He runs tight and not to daylight, NEVER EVER will be a threat like LT.Phil is still alive!!!!! He is a stud. No time to throw. Because you cannot man up and fire Norv, fire AJ, to hell with your BS.Move to LA, they can have you.You are wasting Phillip , may he leave us and play on a team that IS COMMITTED TO WINNING. Dean you are cheap.Period. And, you let AJ blow your millions on has beens…Where is Sproles?Jackson? Oh I could go on…..And to you who call me fair weather…I could still suit up and kick your ass…..
