A man who looked like a suspect from an earlier robbery shot at an Indio police officer and the officer shot back, wounding him, a police official said.
An Indio police officer was patrolling the area of Highway 111 and Madison Street about 8 a.m. today when he saw a man at a Circle K convenience store who matched the description of a suspect from an earlier robbery in the city.
The officer tried to get the man’s attention and they ended up near the loading dock at a Stater Bros. across the street, Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.
“The officer made contact with the suspect, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot at the officer, the officer shot back,” Guitron said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment, Guitron didn’t have details on where he was shot or his condition.
The officer wasn’t hurt, he said.
The officer would be put on paid leave pending an administrative review, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would investigate, Guitron said.
Highway 111 north of Madison was closed for the investigation.

We saw this and the police drove up and shot him with no warning. The man tried to run when the shots were fired at him but he was shot down. The suspect had nothing in his hand when he was shot and no weapon was visible. We watched the police check his pockets and still no weapon was seen
More honest people need to come forward about issues like this ..our community is in truble to many crimes and to many police officers trying to put names and faces to crimes right or wrong …just to appease victims of these crimes..catch the persons guilty of these crimes not innocent people that become victims themselfs…..
I don’t know who Joe d is, but follow the links to the video from the TV news show which clearly depicts the bloody clothes AND a large caliber revolver right there next to the spot where the guy shot at the two policemen and was then shot at and hit by them.
