What’s on for the Weekend: Swing, Scrooge and the Festival of Lights

The weekend is just around the corner, Southwest Riverside! Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Nearly 3.5 million lights herald in the holiday season for the Mission Inn Festival of Lights, Friday Nov. 23.

Festival of Lights

Mission Inn in Riverside

The switch has been flipped on 3.5 million Christmas lights, saturating downtown Riverside in brilliant hues for the 20th annual “Festival of Lights.” Fun holiday fare will continue through New Year’s.

Open House at Alpaca Hacienda

31755 Rancho Vista Road, Temecula

For the first time ever, Temecula’s Alpaca Hacienda will welcome the public to a holiday open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.

“Celebration of Swing”

28237 La Piedra Rd., Menifee

The Menifee Jazz Ensemble is kicking it into high gear with “A Celebration of Swing” at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 29-30 at Mt. San Jacinto College, Menifee Valley campus. The concert will feature various styles of music connected to the legendary bandleader Count Basie.

“A Christmas Carol”

42051 Main Street, Temecula

Presented by Temecula Valley Players, this time-honored holiday favorite is being staged Nov. 29-Dec. 9 at Old Town Temecula Community Theater. Tickets start at $20.

“Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’”

1363 Old Globe Way, San Diego

The whimsical tale of a mean, green creature bent on hijacking Christmas from the families of Whoville is running now through Dec. 29 at The Old Globe.

Christmas at the Mission

26801 Ortega Highway, San Juan Capistrano

Mission San Juan Capistrano will kick off the holiday season by hosting its annual “Christmas at the Mission” from 5:30-8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1. A magical night under the stars will allow revelers to visit the nativity scene, meet St. Nicholas, and enjoy the beauty of the Mission’s gardens, all lit up for Christmas.

Candlelight Classics

42051 Main Street, Temecula

Continuing a tradition of festive chamber concerts to ring in the holidays, Temecula Presents and the California Chamber Orchestra present the annual “Candlelight Classics” performances at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 and 9 in the Club at the Merc, Old Town Temecula Community Theater.

Music at the Merc

Music is always happening at The Merc in Old Town Temecula. Friday’s feature good old fashioned rock ‘n roll and Saturday’s ImproVacations at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. Then, it’s Classics at The Merc at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $11.
