Officers from the Indian Wells Police Department arrived at the scene of the accident just after 10 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 29 in the area near Osage Trail and Apache Road in Indian Wells.

Investigators learned the suspect was driving a Ford Taurus eastbound on Osage Trail when he ran up a grass shoulder, hit a palm tree and scraped a wall.

Officers were able to follow a fluid trail from the crash site to car parked on Shawnee Circle with the suspect sitting behind the wheel, Sgt. Patrick Carroll stated in a Riverside County Sheriff’s report.

La Quinta resident James Conway, 44, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Conway suffered minor injuries and investigators believe that alcohol consumption was a factor in the crash, Sgt. Carroll said.

He was booked into the Riverside County Jail in the city of Indio.

Anyone with further details regarding this ongoing investigation is urged to contact the Indian Wells Police Department’s Traffic Division at 760-836-1600.
