Teen allegedly attempts suicide with crash near Temecula

A teen driver attempting suicide drove his car into another motorist near Temecula, officials said today.

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the collision just after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3 at Warren and Benton roads north of Temecula to assist the California Highway Patrol.

According to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report, the crash resulted in minor to moderate injuries to both drivers, both of whom were transported by ambulance to Inland Valley Hospital.

“The deputies learned during their investigation that the 16-year-old male driver of one of the vehicles deliberately drove into the other vehicle in an apparent suicide attempt. The resulting collision injured both the 16-year-old male and the 52-year-old male driver of the other vehicle,” Sgt. K. McDonald noted in the report.

The teen was interviewed by sheriff’s deputies at the hospital and will be sent for “a mental health evaluation after receiving treatment for his injuries.”

Assault with a deadly weapon charges are under consideration.

An investigation is underway.
