What’s on for the Weekend: ‘The Nutcracker,’ Cheap Trick and a Parade of Lights

The weekend is calling you, Southwest Riverside! Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Cheap Trick

“I want you, to want me!” Cheap Trick, the black and white checkered, wild and crazy guitar-riffing 80s favorite will perform at 8 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Pechanga Resort & Casino.

2nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

29714 Haun Road, Menifee

Menifee will flip the switch as part of its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony planned from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Menifee City Hall. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there. Residents are invited to bring non-perishable food items to help stock the Menifee Community Cupboard.

“The Nutcracker”

562 W. Fourth St. in San Bernardino

Presented by the Inland Dance Theater, this classic holiday tradition has performances planned for Dec. 7-9 at California Theatre of the Performing Arts.

Santa’s Electric Light Parade

Front Street in Old Town Temecula

Get ready to line up and check out the best and brightest in holiday fun at Temecula’s annual Electric Light Parade. The parade begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, but the streets will close off at 5 p.m.

“Winterfest” — Street Faire and Holiday Celebration

Historic Downtown Lake Elsinore

This annual event includes craft vendors, food, family amusements, lighting of the holiday tree and a visit from Santa. The event is planned for 5 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 7.

Festival of Lights

Mission Inn in Riverside

Don’t miss the 3.6 million Christmas lights saturating downtown Riverside in brilliant hues as part of the 20th annual “Festival of Lights.” Fun holiday fare will continue through New Year’s.

Parade of Lights

1492 North Harbor Drive, San Diego

It’s a So Cal annual tradition. Board the historic ferryboat “Berkeley” to watch the brightly decorated boats at Maritime Museum of San Diego on Dec. 9.

“A Christmas Carol”

Presented by Temecula Valley Players, this time-honored holiday favorite is being staged through Dec. 9 at Old Town Temecula Community Theater. Tickets start at $20.

“Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’”

1363 Old Globe Way, San Diego

The whimsical tale of a mean, green creature bent on hijacking Christmas from the families of Whoville is running now through Dec. 29 at The Old Globe.

Candlelight Classics

Continuing a tradition of festive chamber concerts to ring in the holidays, Temecula Presents and the California Chamber Orchestra present the annual “Candlelight Classics” performance at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9 in the Club at the Merc, Old Town Temecula Community Theater.

Music at the Merc

Music is always happening at The Merc in Old Town Temecula. Friday’s feature good old fashioned rock ‘n roll and Saturday’s ImproVacations at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. Then, it’s Classics at The Merc at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $11.
