The 26-year-old man, whose name was withheld pending notification of kin, died about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 5 at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning, about an hour after he was injured, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Someone reported hearing multiple gunshots about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of North Phillips Avenue.

Someone also saw an African American man running south on Phillips to Ramsey Street, Banning police Sgt. Alex Diaz said.

“Then we received a second call from people at a restaurant. A black male had run into the restaurant saying he was hurt and needed help,” Diaz told City News Service.

Police went to the restaurant and found the injured man, he said.

“Once they laid him down and gave him first aid. they saw he’d been shot multiple times,” Diaz said.

He said police didn’t have any suspect information.

Anyone with information was asked to call detectives at (951) 849-1194.
