More than 60 motorists were ticketed in San Jacinto in a crackdown on distracted drivers that also netted 11 arrests, authorities said today.
Riverside County sheriff’s deputies conducted a daylong “Cell Phone Enforcement Operation” Wednesday in multiple locations throughout the city, according to Deputy Curtis Cox.
“The goal of the operation was to … bring public awareness to the dangers of distracted driving,” he said.
According to the deputy, 59 people were cited for using a mobile phone without a hands-free device and six people received citations for texting while driving.
Nine people pulled over during the operation were arrested on suspicion of driving on a suspended license or being an unlicensed operator of a motor vehicle, according to Curtis.
Two arrest warrants also were served.
