Baby formula thefts: Two arrested on suspicion of stealing from more than 20 stores

Two Perris residents were arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $12,000 worth of baby formula from a number of Target stores, including several in Murrieta and Menifee, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Daniel Palacios, 21, and Cristina Gomez, 19, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of marijuana for sales, conspiracy and child endangerment. Two children within the home were taken and placed into child protective services.

The investigation began on Oct. 4 when Target Loss Prevention called the Moreno Valley Police Department Burglary Suppression Team. Target handed the police several reports and video surveillance of two people committing over 20 separate thefts at Target and Wal-Mart stores in Riverside County, according to the sheriff’s department.

Police learned burglaries took place in Moreno Valley, Riverside, Murrieta and Menifee. Investigators believe the couple took more than $12,000 worth of baby formula, investigators said in a news release.

On Thursday, Dec. 6, officers served a search warrant in the 25000 block of Sophie Street near Perris.
