Barricaded suspect shoots self in Corona

A man who barricaded himself inside his home today after allegedly opening fire at a woman fatally shot himself during a lengthy standoff with police in Corona, authorities said.

The man whose name was withheld pending relative notification was seen chasing the woman on Ingram Drive while firing the handgun, a press statement from the Corona Police Department read.

Dispatchers received a number of phone calls about 10:35 a.m. of shots fired.

The woman fled to a neighbor’s home without injury.

The suspect ran back to his home at 5006 Ingram Drive where he remained as police officers set up a perimeter.

SWAT team members were called in and a number of unsuccessful attempts were made to communicate with the suspect. Several hours later police entered the home and found the suspect had shot himself, the statement read.

It was not certain whether the woman who was shot at was the gunman’s wife or girlfriend, Corona Police Lt. Sergio Banales said.
