Indio: Motorist critically injured in fiery crash

A motorist was critically injured today as his mini-van veered 100 feet off Interstate 10 north of Indio, flipped over and burst into flames today, firefighters said.

The crash was reported at 1:05 a.m. at the eastbound freeway’s offramp to Monroe Street, where the vehicle was engulfed in flames, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.

Paramedics took the injured occupant to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified major injuries, Hagemann said.
