Police search for gunman who fired on motorist in Coachella

Sheriff’s investigators are looking for a gunman who wounded an occupant of a car today in Coachella, authorities said.

The victim was struck several times but was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Steve DaSilva.

Dispatchers received a call at 2:07 a.m. about the shooting that erupted on northbound Harrison Street, north of Avenue 49 in Coachella.

A suspect pulled up alongside a car where the victim and other occupants were in and opened fire, DaSilva said.

No one else inside the car was hurt during the shooting sheriff’s authorities are treating as an assault with a deadly weapon, DaSilva said.

The vehicle the suspect traveled in was a new white Ford F-150 ”Raptor” with a crew cab. The driver was described as Latino with a thin build and dark complexion
