Trees charred near railroad tracks in Thermal

No injuries were reported today when flames charred several trees about 20 feet from Union Pacific railroad tracks between Coachella and Thermal, a spokeswoman said.

Firefighters arrived at the vegetation fire along the UP mainline, next to Grapefruit Boulevard, after it was reported at 5:46 a.m., Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.

The fire blackened the trees northwest of Airport Boulevard.

No cause was given.
