La Quinta: Cyclist clipped by hit-and-run driver hospitalized

A bicyclist suffered serious injuries when he was involved in a hit-and-run collision over the weekend, authorities reported.

Officers arrived on scene at about 11 p.m. on Sunday Dec. 16 near Washington Street and Avenue 48 in La Quinta.

During their investigation, officers learned the cyclist was thrown from his bike after being hit.

The driver briefly stopped, but sped off before authorities arrived, Sgt. Baur said in a Riverside County Sheriff’s press release.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored sedan with possible damage to the right side, Baur added.
