A head-on collision in the Thermal area sent four people to hospitals, including one in critical condition who was transported by helicopter, California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Fire officials said today.

The accident was reported at about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 25 at Avenue 70 and Fillmore Street, said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.
One patient, in critical condition, was transported via REACH Air helicopter to a hospital, while the other three, with minor injuries, were transported to hospitals by ground ambulances, Hendrickson said.
The CHP was investigating the collision.
