One person died in a crash in Coachella this afternoon involving multiple vehicles, one of which was a big rig, a county fire department spokeswoman said.
The crash was reported around 12:40 p.m. on southbound Highway 86 near Avenue 50.
A vehicle was pinned underneath the big rig, and one person was declared dead at the scene, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.
One person was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries, and three others declined treatment at the scene, Hendrickson said.
The crash involved three or four vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.
