Hiker injured after falling off mountain trail

A hiker plunged 50 feet from a trail in the mountains above Rancho Mirage today and was rescued, a spokeswoman said.

Firefighters used a rope to help guide the hiker back onto the Bump and Grind Trail during the incident, which was reported at 10:27 a.m., Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

The hiker was then flown out to an area hospital for moderate injuries, Hendrickson said.
