“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” continued its journey across the box office charts, and has been the number on movie in the U.S. and Canada for three straight weeks, an analyst said today.
“The Hobbit” was on track to have a $32.9 million weekend, bringing its total gate to more than $220 million domestically.
A trio of holiday premieres held down the next three spots: “Django Unchained” ($30.7 million), “Les Miserables” ($28 million), and “Parental Guidance” ($14.8 million).
Rounding out the 10 most popular films this weekend, as measured by gate receipt estimates collected by the studios and Hollywood.com Box Office were “Jack Reacher” ($14 million), “This Is 40” ($13.2 million),”Lincoln” ($7.5 million), “The Guilt Trip” ($6.7 million), “Monsters Inc. 3-D” ($6.7 million) and “Rise Of The Guardians” ($4.9 million).
