Man reaching for beer killed by falling refrigerator in Los Angeles

A Los Angeles man in his 60s died on New Year’s Day when a refrigerator fell on him as he was trying to get a beer, a coroner’s official said today.

The freak death occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday Jan.1 in the 1300 block of 76th Street, according to Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter.

Winter said the man was getting a beer from a refrigerator in his garage when the appliance fell on him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
