Suspect detained with help of K-9 unit in San Jacinto

A man wanted for an outstanding  felony warrant was arrested with the help of a Riverside County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, officials reported.

Officers were alerted at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday Jan. 1 that 37-year-old Shawn Sikes, of San Jacinto was hiding in a home in the 400 block of E. Seventh Street in San Jacinto.

Responding deputies found Sikes hiding in a closet and he was taken into custody with the assistance of the K-9 unit, Sgt. Nardone stated in a sheriff’s press release.

The suspect was bitten by the dog and was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Sikes was eventually booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on charges of felony burglary and a forgery warrant, Sgt. Nardone added.
