Man suffers gunshot wounds near Camp Pendleton

A man was wounded by gunfire today in a rural area near the northeastern reaches of Camp Pendleton.

The shooting near De Luz Road and Harris Trail in Fallbrook was reported shortly before 1 p.m., according to sheriff’s officials.

The wounded man flagged down a passing motorist, who gave him a ride to a hospital, a dispatcher said.

The victim’s condition was unavailable, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear.
