A fire broke out today in a Moreno Valley apartment complex, damaging at least one unit and triggering a secondary fire outside the building.
The three-alarm blaze was reported about 10:30 a.m. at the Stonegate Apartments at 12640 Memorial Way, just off the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, near the Towngate mall.
Fourteen engine crews and three truck companies — about 60 personnel –were sent to battle the blaze, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Riverside city firefighters were called to assist.
Sheriff’s deputies helped evacuate the complex.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
According to reports from the scene, the blaze started in a third-floor apartment.
High winds carried embers onto the street below, sparking a second fire, which was quickly contained.
Because fire hoses were stretched across surrounding streets, deputies closed roads leading into the area.
