A suspected car thief is behind bars after witnesses called police as the suspect was attempting to steal a vehicle, officials confirmed today.
Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies reported that on Wednesday Jan. 9 at about 4:30 p.m. Luis Gutierrez, 18, of Corona was spotted by residents as he was trying to break into a car near Second Street and Valley View Avenue in Norco.
The bystanders interrupted the suspect and chased him off.
Gutierrez took off running across Hamner Avenue and tried to hide inside a storage lot near the 1800 block of Hamner Avenue, Sgt. Manning stated in a sheriff’s report.
Deputies arrived on scene, entered the storage lot and arrested Gutierrez.
He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of vehicle burglary, possession of stolen property and an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of methamphetamine.
