A Holocaust survivor linked by marriage to famed diarist and Holocaust victim Anne Frank will share her story of enduring and overcoming tragedy with a Riverside audience next week.

Eva Schloss, 83, is scheduled to speak at Riverside City College’s Landis Performing Arts Center on Saturday Jan. 19, in a symposium titled “Learning from the Past, Living in the Present, Looking to the Future.”
The Chabad Jewish Community Center of Riverside is sponsoring the event, during which several journalists will interview Schloss about her life and experiences, then open the session to questions.
Schloss’s mother became the second wife of Otto Frank in 1953, about eight years after the former Dutch businessman lost his entire family to starvation and disease at a Nazi concentration camp. Anne Frank was his youngest child.
Schloss was 15 when she, her mother, father and brother were imprisoned at the Auschwitz death camp in Poland in May 1944.
Only she and her mother survived the eight-month ordeal that ended when the Red Army liberated the camp.
Schloss immigrated to England in the 1950s, married and raised a family.
She became a trustee of the Anne Frank Educational Trust in the 1990s. In the last two decades, Schloss has co-authored several books, including her autobiography, “Eva’s Story,” and contributed to a major theatrical production — “And Then They Came for Me: Remembering The World of Anne Frank.”
