Palm Springs man arrested on suspicion of throwing rocks

A Palm Springs man well-known to police was behind bars today on suspicion of throwing rocks through windows at Cathedral City businesses. He told police he did so because he was “mad.”

Alex Roque Castro, 41, showed signs of being intoxicated when he was arrested, Sgt. Corwin de Veas said.

An alarm alerted police to the 68250 block of Ramon Road shortly after 11 p.m. Monday, he said. Then three more alarms went off in about 15 minutes, he said.

“He admitted to throwing rocks through the windows to the businesses because he was  ‘mad.’”  de Veas said.

Castro has been arrested for assault, elder abuse, burglary and possession of drugs and being under the influence of controlled substances, de Veas said.

Castro had two felony warrants for vandalism when he was arrested, de Veas said.

The area has been vandalized  “numerous” times in the past several weeks, he said.

Castro was jailed in Indio on $30,000 bail and scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.
