According to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report, a 20-year-man had agreed to meet with a woman on Jan. 13 at Kent Hintergardt Park, located at 45125 Via Del Coronado in Temecula.

“While he waited, he was assaulted by a male suspect using a baseball bat. The victim sustained numerous injuries but was able to drive his vehicle home. He was then transported to the hospital by family members,” said Sgt.  Decker in the report.

Officials said the man’s injuries were major and potentially life-threatening. He was admitted on Jan. 14 to Rancho Springs Medical Center.

Temecula police have said the man was not chosen at random and was not the victim of a robbery.

This investigation is ongoing and the Temecula Police Department is actively following up on information provided by the victim.
