Officer shoots burglary suspect in Moreno Valley

A burglary investigation led to a man being shot by a sheriff’s deputy at a Moreno Valley apartment complex today, authorities said.

The deputy-involved shooting occurred around 1:20 p.m. in the 15600 block of Lasselle Street, near Iris Avenue.

Riverside County sheriff’s deputies were called to the location to investigate a possible burglary in progress and encountered a suspect, according to reports from the scene.

During an apparent confrontation with the man, whose identity was not released, a deputy opened fire, wounding him in the upper leg.

Sheriff’s officials said the suspect was transported to Riverside County Regional Medical Center for treatment.

His condition was not immediately known.

No deputies were injured.
