A Riverside police vice sting targeting individuals who solicit prostitutes netted eight arrests, authorities reported today.
The operation was one of a number that the police department has conducted in recent months to discourage solicitation along the University Avenue corridor.
In the most recent sting, which ran all day on Jan. 10, female officers posed as street walkers in the area of University and Park avenues, just off the Riverside (91) Freeway. According to Detective Mike Cobb, eight men approached the women and negotiated money-for-sex deals.
The suspects were arrested for misdemeanor solicitation, photographed, cited and released, Cobb said.
Additional stings are planned in the coming months.
