With a sway of the hips and a passionate stare, the hypnotic style of Tango dancing is coming to Temecula with the 10th Annual “Tango & International Dance Carnival” on Saturday Jan. 26.
Professional husband and wife dance team Victor and Elena Panky have been wowing crowds with their festive and informative event for a decade.
“The event has outgrown our Fallbrook location, so we had to move it to Temecula last year,” event spokesperson Carlos De Leon Diaz explained.
This year the event is being held at the Inland Valley Classical Ballet studio.
Elena grew up in Russia with Tango in her blood, spending her time twirling around the dance floor.
“My parents were dancers who fell in love on the dance floor dancing the Tango,” Elena said.
She moved to the United States 16-years-ago and continued to slide across dance floors with her favorite dancing partner, Victor.
At the upcoming Tango event the evening will begin with the dance-masters giving lessons to singles and partners in basic dance moves.
Following the dance lessons, the floor will open up and the dance bash will begin.
“Both Elena and Victor have studied under the best Tango masters in the world,” Diaz said.
The show promises a display of several ethnic dances from around the world, including Lebanese, Belly, Russian, Spanish, Vaganova Classical Ballet and Argentine Tango styles.
During the event, Victor will share history and anecdotes about the different aspects of the Argentine Tango and other dances. He will also answer questions from the crowd.
“The Tango is very spiritual, it is not just a step to the right and a step to the left,” Elena explained. “It has magical qualities.”
Elena added, “When people dance the Tango they relax, lose weight, improve strength, and increase longevity.”
Guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite and festive ‘Carnival’ type costume for a chance to win prizes.
