Between 8:30 tonight and 2:30 a.m. Saturday, officers staffing the checkpoint will look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and make sure drivers are carrying valid licenses, police Sgt. Paul Abshire said, adding that checkpoints reduce crashes.

People arrested for DUI will face jail time, loss of driver’s licenses and higher insurance premiums, he said.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
