But, this year, founder and  former “Survivor: Gabon” contestant Gillian Larson said she wants to expand her reach into the local community and its businesses.

“Our reputation is out there now and I love it. But my goal is to see more of our residents out there from Murrieta and Temecula,” Larson said, adding that she plans to reach out to schools and families in the region.

The annual fundraising event pairs dozens of teams with reality stars from shows like “Survivor” and “The Apprentice” in a zany, action-packed “Amazing Race”-style game.

Larson continues to make gains with the annual fundraising event that she dreamed up while on the walking the sandy beaches after she was ousted from “Survivor: Gabon.”

In 2012, Larson said $44, 178.28 was raised. One hundred percent of the net proceeds have and will benefit the Temecula-based breast cancer resource center Michelle’s Place.

Reality stars, many of them citing a personal connection to the cause, not only arrive from around the country to take part in the event, but they also raise an entrance fee of $400 in donations in order to participate.

“We’re also inviting businesses that want to put in three of their fun employees, or four who choose to race without a reality star, to join us. It gives them an opportunity to promote their businesses and get the word out about who they are,” Larson said.

Larson added that the game will evolve this year with an emphasis on tech-minded gadgets and gizmos where fans and family members can follow along online and apps that offer help to contestants as they scramble through a fun maze of challenges.

There will also be expanded activities for youngsters wishing to participate and sponsorship opportunities community members and businesses.

Reality Rally kicks off April 5-7 in Old Town Temecula.

In addition to the race, a number of events are planned: the 2013 Reality Rally Golf Tournament at 7:30 a.m. on April 5 at Pala Mesa Resort, festivities with the reality stars from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 5 at Wilson Creek Winery, a Red Carpet Celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 6 at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa and Breakfast with the Stars from 9 to 11 a.m. on April 7 at Pala Mesa Resort.
