Police: Indio man suspected of lewd acts with a child

A 61-year-old Indio man was behind bars today following his arrest on suspicion of committing lewd acts with children to whom he is related.

Filiberto Torres Perez was arrested around 3 p.m. Thursday at his home in the 43800 block of Main Street in Indio, said Ben Guitron of the Indio Police Department.

The arrest follows an investigation that began in September, when Child Protective Services notified police of a possible child molestation, Guitron said.

“The investigation led detectives to discover more than one incident of child sexual molestation (at Perez’s home),” Guitron said.

Perez is a grandfather and uncle of the alleged victims, Guitron said, adding that detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not been identified.

Perez was booked at the Riverside County jail in Indio on suspicion of two counts of committing lewd acts with a child, Guitron said.

Anyone with information about Perez was urged to call Indio police Detective Peter Fuentes at 760-541-4297.
