The exchange will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ralphs parking lot, 280 E. Compton Blvd., said sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida.

The amount of the gift card will be $200 for an assault weapon, $100 for a handgun, and $50 for a shotgun, Nishida said.

“This program provides an opportunity for residents to safely and anonymously surrender any firearm to the sheriff’s department,” Nishida said, adding that it is “designed to get as many firearms off the streets as possible.”
