Legendary sportscaster and the official voice of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball Vin Scully will be the guest speaker today at an Indian Wells fundraiser benefiting the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center.
Scully will address the center’s Uncles Club during its annual “Sports Luncheon” at the Hyatt Indian Wells Resort and Spa.
Scully, 84, has been calling Dodger baseball games since the 1950s — when the team was semi-affectionately referred to as “The Bums” and still playing in Brooklyn — the longest any contemporary broadcaster has been associated with a franchise, according to a biography.
He’s expected to talk about his career and the team’s prospects this season during his appearance before the Uncles Club, which is charging $88 per seat at the fundraiser.
Each member of the Uncles Club donates $1,000 annually to the center, which Frank Sinatra and his wife founded in 1986.
The nonprofit, located at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, provides counseling and other services to abused children and their families.
