Deputies today searched Lakewood Regional Medical Center after receiving a report of a man with a gun in the facility, but found no such person.
Law enforcement personnel went to the hospital at 3500 South St. about 12:20 p.m., said sheriff’s Sgt. Anthony Tachias of the Lakewood Station.
The hospital was locked down as a precaution, as were several nearby schools, but all were declared safe after about an hour, Tachias said.
According to the Long Beach Press-Telegram, a nurse told authorities she may have seen a visitor with a weapon in his or her waistband who was engaged in an argument with another person at the facility.
The emergency room and operating rooms were not affected, the newspaper reported.
