Man struck, killed by vehicle in Murrieta identified

A man who was fatally struck by an SUV Tuesday night in Murrieta was identified today by officials with the Riverside County Coroner’s office.

Murrieta resident Ryan Rayner, 24, was hit by the vehicle at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Robert Trent Jones Parkway and Winchester Road, just north of Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

According to the coroner’s report, Rayner succumbed to his injuries at the site of the crash.

Murrieta Police Department Lt. Jon Flavin said Tuesday that Rayner was pronounced dead at the scene by Murrieta Fire Department officials.

According to a Murrieta Police Department report, witnesses said Rayner had walked eastbound into the southbound lanes of traffic on Winchester Road just prior to the collision.

The driver of the involved vehicle was not injured and showed no visible signs of impairment, police officials said.

The Murrieta Police Department Traffic Division is handling the investigation of this collision.
