After officers detained the suspects, 38-year-old Manuel Hyde started acting strangely. Shortly after, the officers noticed that he had a substance around his lips and mouth.

Officers immediately summoned an ambulance believing Hyde had possibly swallowed illegal drugs, Sgt. Wisehart stated in a Hemet Police Department report.

Emergency workers tried to help the man, however, he was later pronounced dead at Hemet Valley Medical Center.

The Riverside County Coroner’s office, in conjunction with Hemet Police Investigators, are investigating the death.
