The MSJC men’s basketball team lost for the first time this season at home on Wednesday night as they fell to the visiting Chaffey Panthers 93-81.
Chaffey got off to a fast start building an early lead, but MSJC responded with physical inside play and a penetrating offense that would keep the game close in the first 20 minutes with Chaffey able to push the lead to 8 at the half 47-39.
Both teams shot an impressive 52 percent from the field in the first half.
In the second half, Chaffey began to build the lead as they seemed to respond every time that MSJC would close the gap.
Eventually, the Panthers built the lead to as much as 18, before the Eagles made one more late push.
Sam Natt hit four three-pointers all in the second half as MSJC got the game back within seven points in the final four minutes, but Chaffey made their free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
Mylin Jordan led four Eagles in double figures with 17 points.
Natt finished the day with 14, while Donovan Clark added 13 and D’Anthony Peterson had 10 to go along with a team high 5 assists.
Montreal Harris led the Eagles in rebounding with 7 as the Eagles out rebounded the Panthers 39-33.
The loss drops MSJC’s overall record to 14-7 on the season and 2-4 in Foothill Conference play while Chaffey improved to 16-5 and 5-1.
The Eagles will be back in action at home at 3 p.m. on Saturday Jan.26 when they host Antelope Valley.
